(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1978-9]n
INSPECTION DATE: 1/97/10 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: MA(-
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). Greg Nelson of Weld County was also present for the inspection. The Geisert Pit is located in north
Greeley at 933 N. I lth Avenue. The site is permitted for 103.13 acres and the post-mining land use is recreation.
The permit sign was posted at the entrance to the site and the affected area was clearly delineated per Rule
3.1.12. There was no mining taking place at the time of the inspection; the mining and plant equipment are
being utilized at another county site. The site is mined approximately 3 months each year. The Operator will
begin dewatering operations in July, so that mining may commence in the fall. The site remains active the
remainder of the year through the regular removal of product from stockpiles, which are located near the site
entrance on the east side of the permitted area.
The site will contain two unlined pits once reclamation is complete. The west pit has been mined to completion
and has been fully reclaimed. The slopes of the west pit have been reclaimed to 3H:1 V or flatter. Topsoil has
been replaced and vegetated; the vegetation has established to the point that it will be self-sustaining. Active
mining operations are taking place in the east pit; mining is progressing to the east. Overburden and topsoil has
been placed in berms around the perimeter of the east pit. The topsoil stockpiles are vegetated and stable. Both
of the pits contain exposed groundwater; the Division has a valid Substitute Water Supply Plan on file.
According to the Operator, the site will be operated for another 5 years.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Greg Nelson
OPERATOR: _ Weld _ni my
STREET: 1111 H StrPPt
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Greeley ('0 80h39
