Both
cover and production of perennial grasses increased in 2009 but remain below that of native
rangelands. Production values of perennial grasses and shrubs have all made substantial gains
from levels recorded in 2008; however, production of perennial fortis declined by 35.6 percent.
Cover of shrubs increased 5.7 percent from levels recorded in 2008.
The following statements compare the values measured in 2009 for Well Pad 3A4H to the
reclamation goals/requirements:
The production of perennial grasses is 75.5 percent nearing the requirement of being
equal of that measured on native rangeland. The production of perennial forbs is 91.9
percent nearing the requirement of being equal of that measured on native rangeland.
• The cover of all perennial herbaceous species declined by 6 percent in 2009. The cover of
all perennial herbaceous species 94 percent of that on native rangeland near the
requirement of being equal of that measured on native rangeland. The cover of perennial
grasses in 2009 increased 1.4 percent from 2008 but remains 19.3 percent below cover
values measured on native rangeland. A substantial decrease in cover of perennial forbs
occurred in 2009 but exceeds that on native rangeland by 38.7 percent.
• The composition of perennial forbs exceeds that of native rangeland by 14.3 percent;
substantially greater than the required 4 % of that measured on native rangeland.
The composition of shrubs is 78.7 percent of that on native rangeland; substantially
greater than the required 12 % of that measured on native rangeland.
All the reclamation goals/requirements are being met or exceeded at this site with the exception
of production from perennial grasses. It is likely the site will achieve the requirements within a
few years without additional reclamation efforts as perennial species continue to mature and
increase their production.
2009 Annual Report 20 of 33
