Peabody <br />Twentymile Coal Company <br />29515 Routt County Road #27 <br />Oak Creek, CO 80467 <br />970.879.3800 <br />January 27, 2010 <br />RECEIVED <br />FEB 012010 <br />Division or Reclamation, <br />Mining and Safety <br />Ms. Tania Watson <br />Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment <br />Water Quality Control Division - Permits and Enforcement <br />4300 Cherry Creek Drive South <br />Denver, CO 80222-1530 <br />RE: PERMIT CO-0042161: THIRD QUARTER 2009 DMR SUBMITTAL <br />Dear Ms. Watson: <br />Please find enclosed the above referenced discharge monitoring reports for the period October 1, <br />2009 through December 31, 2009, for Outfalls 001 A/001 W/MON 1 (all site 115), and 002A (waste <br />water sites 300E and 3001). <br />Outfall 002A flowed each week of October and November, however due to subzero temperatures <br />in early December, the piping for outfall sites froze and there was no discharge in December. <br />Note that this situation was resolved in early January 2010. One exceedance was noted in <br />October for 002A, the 30 day average for BOD 5 Day was 32 mg/L as opposed to the permit limit <br />of 30 mg/L. Only one sample was collected that month. Note that BOD 5 Day for the following <br />month (November) was within permit limits at 19 mg/L. <br />Outfall 001 A/001 W/MON1 did not discharge during the fourth quarter. <br />If you have any questions, please contact me directly at: (970) 870-2750. <br />Very truly y urs, <br />Brian A.
