Individual Cross Sections
Phase IA
The bedrock in this phase dips slightly northward. Therefore a worst case scenario is represented by the
north mining highwall of this phase. Three soil profiles were analyzed based on soil information from
exploration locations ET02-131-105, No. 1, and MW-3.
A soil screening berm was placed north of the pit. Flood irrigation, north of WCR 641/2, was simulated
by raising the piezometric surface, under the road and in the borrow ditch just south of the existing road,
above the highest monitored surface to the ground surface.
The road is planned to be widened. The widening will result in the ditch being relocated southward.
The controlling case is ET02-131-105 with a setback distance of 47 feet.
Phase 1B
The deepest depth to bedrock near a structure occurs near the northwest portion of the mining cell.
Three soil profiles were analyzed based on soil information from exploration locations No.3, ET02-
BHO1, and No. 10.
An overburden stockpile was placed northwest of the pit. No flood irrigation is near this mining cell;
therefore the piezometric surface was based on the site monitoring. The controlling case is No.3 with a
setback distance of 39 feet.
Phase IC
The deepest depth to bedrock near a structure occurs near the northwest portion of the mining cell. The
soil profile analyzed was based on soil information from exploration location No.5.
An overburden stockpile was placed northwest of the pit. No flood irrigation is near this mining cell;
therefore the piezometric surface was based on the site monitoring.
Phase 2 Eastside
The depth to bedrock in this area is greatest in the middle of the mining cell. Therefore a worst case
scenario is represented by the middle of the east mining highwall of this phase. The soil profiles
analyzed were based on soil information from exploration locations No.3, and MW-4.
An overburden stockpile was placed east of the pit. No flood irrigation is near this mining cell;
therefore the piezometric surface was based on the site monitoring. The controlling case is No.3 with a
setback distance of 39 feet.
Parsons Mine
DRMS 112 Permit
Page SE3 of SE7
