r
the person that took my job almost double of what I was getting. For us to do our own farm at a
much less rate should make everyone happy instead of fighting all of the time. Ross and Lance
are both working with all of us very well. Ross and I are even on the same page and trying to do
some good things. But, WE ARE NOT GOING TO ALLOW OUR PRIME FARM LAND TO
BE PUT BACK TO DRY LAND NO MATTER WHAT. All of you will be moved away and
retired but you know what, we will still be HERE. This farm is the only source of income that
the Morgan family has ever had. I'll repeat that, this farm is the only source of income that the
Morgan family has ever had. Mrs. Morgan has never worked outside of the home and Mr.
Morgan has never done anything except FARM THIS PLACE. He has no retirement or anything
else, just this place. You guys think because you lease the coal, that WOW look at the money.
Here are some facts for you. HAY sells for $140 per ton. The Sunshine corner by itself,
produces 500 ton per year. You have already had that corner sine 1998. Figure it yourself. This
was a very small piece. You guys also want to lease another 200 plus acres from Patty and Mr.
Morgan but you won't honor contracts in hand. We want you to mine the coal and let us go on
with our lives and do our farming and everyday activities. The other farmers might not want this
because they have other jobs and they have other income and like Ross said they sit around and
reap the rewards at your expense. We don't want that. We want to do what we have done the
past 13 years. We want to follow the mine and put everything back and get you guys out of here
as quickly as possible meeting all of your needs and our needs, also. Because of a disagreement a
years ago, I am no longer there. Many times I have wished I had just turned around and walked
away, but my loyalties was to my job and to doing the best job possible for Western Fuels and it
was part of me. Lance said just lay low and he would get to the bottom of everything and this
was suppose to be temporary, but I `m not back yet, no choice of my own. I'm still trying to
work well with Ross because he does mean a lot to me and Lance has always been a part of my
family and Tom and I do not get along really well, but I let Michael do most of the talking to
Tom. Because a person has strong beliefs and will stand up to what they think is right, does not
make them wrong or a bad person. Everyone is different and sees things differently and I am one
that has very strong beliefs and loyalties and willing to go the distance. Sometimes my emotions
act without the full benefit of intellect and then I have to go and do whatever to correct the
problem once it has cooled. This does not make me wrong, but, maybe could been handled a
little differently.
Tow, back to your letter, We will be exercising our first rights of refusal at all times on this
property whether it is being mined, has been mined, or will be mined. Temporary work or
permanent work, does not matter. You have the right to remove the coal, put the topsoil back,
mining activity, all other work is ours.
I have a picture enclosed of the sunshine corner and the fact that you are making Ross work day
and night on revisions that violate our contract. Our farm is prime farmland that is going to be
put back into row- crop, Alfalfa fields, not DRYLAND. You have not gotten Bond release on
dry land in 14 years. I finally got the Division of Reclamation to allow us to plow up and re-seed
prime farmland so it could meet production and get bond release readily and now you're trying to
change it to dryland. If we would all work together on this, instead of finding ways to try and
hurt, we would all live our lives very quietly and happy. If it takes a fight, I guess, but we all
could make all of this work very nicely for everyone.
