(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2006-049
INSPECTION DATE: 1/13/10 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: E.C_
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Smith Pit, a Kit Carson County 110c sand and gravel permit,
conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS traveled with Kit Carson Road and Bridge representative Walt
Isenbart to the site, and observed the site with him at approximately 1200. There was no mining site
identification sign or permit boundary markers present at the site.
Kit Carson County has 9.45 acres currently permitted at this location. However the extent of the permit area was
not marked at the time of the inspection. The County will need to replace the boundary markers and
demonstrate that the current disturbed area is within the permit boundary. It was noted that excavation had led
to the creation of a rather significant and potentially unstable overhang as shown in the photo below. This
overhang should be removed the next time the pit is worked, if it has not collapsed first, as it may pose a
potential worker safety hazard. No other issues were observed during this inspection.
Photo 1- representative photo of Smith Pit taken from south side of pit looking NE. Note overhang that may
pose a worker safety hazard if not removed.
