(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1982-186
INSPECTION DATE: 1/13/10 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Beeson Pit, M-1982-186, a Kit Carson County 110c sand and
gravel permit, conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS traveled with Kit Carson Road and Bridge
representative Walt Isenbart to the site, and observed the site with him at approximately 1530. The permit sign
was present but in rather poor condition with some missing letters/numbers, and should be repaired. There were
no permit boundary markers present. The sign will need to be repaired and appropriate permit boundary
markers places to define the extent of the permit area.
Kit Carson County currently has 9.5 acres permitted at this location. Although no permit boundary markers
were present to verify, it appeared that the extent of the affected areas (which includes access roads and topsoil
stockpiles) would be very near, if not over, the maximum 9.5 allowable acres. The County will need to replace
the permit boundary markers as appropriate and demonstrate to the Division that the affected area is within the
currently permitted area. If the affected area is over 9.5 acres, this is a violation of the existing permit and
would require immediate corrective action in the form of a permit amendment or 112c conversion to avoid
possible enforcement actions by the Mined Land Reclamation Board. If the disturbed area exceeds 9.5 acres,
the permit will need to be amended. If the disturbed area is greater than 9.9 acres the county will need to
convert this site to a 112c permit.
No other issues were observed during this inspection.
Photo 1- representative photo of Beeson Pit taken looking southwest from the northeast corner of the pit.
