around the fracture to collect any generated liquids for analysis and offsite disposal:
Conventional flaring will be used to incinerate any gaseous hydrocarbons generated.
Experiment Size/Scope
Approximately 110kW of power will be applied to an ElectrofracTM heater for several months.
The scope of the test is described below.
• Temperature: The maximum temperature reached on the fracture plane will likely be
approximately 1200 °F.
• Pyrolyzed rock volume: The experiment will likely pyrolyze 10,000 cubic feet or
approximately 600 tons of rock.
• Oil produced: The experiment will produce approximately 400 barrels of oil.
• Gas produced: The experiment will produce about 2 million standard cubic feet of
hydrocarbon gas.
Fluid Production Wells
ExxonMobil will install production wells in the Mahogany zone surrounding the ElectrofracTM
heater and pyrolized rock volume. ExxonMobil will operate the production wells under a slight
vacuum to draw any generated fluids into the wells and to prevent any potential migration to
groundwater.
GROUND AND SURFACE WATER MONITORING
ExxonMobil initiated a ground and surface water monitoring program in June 2007 in
preparation for the ElectrofracTM Construction Test that was performed under TR-11. The
monitoring program is focused on the Mahogany zone in and around the Mine Bench site.
Sampling points are shown in Figure 5. On a monthly basis, water levels and analytical samples
are taken from monitoring wells WW-11, WW-EF-01, TH-A6, and MW-12. As indicated by the
water table contours in Figure 5 this provides one up-gradient and three down-gradient ground
water sampling locations. Surface water samples are taken and flow rates are estimated monthly
at the location water exits the mine entrance and from'the East Middle Fork of Parachute Creek
at the furthermost downstream point on the Colony property when surface flow is present. Due
to the system of retention ponds along the East Middle Fork, generally no surface stream flow
leaves the Colony property. Monitoring results demonstrate that the ElectrofracTM Construction
Test conducted in 2007-2009 had no adverse impact to either surface or ground water at the site.
8
#1445022 v1 den
