Moffat County Pest Management
Gary Brannan, Manager
539 Barclay
Craig, Colorado 81625
Phone: 970-824-9180
Fax: 970-826-3414
November 17, 2009
To whom it may concern
RE: Plan Development for Pit #M-2003-073
First, I would like to thank Darryl Steele, of Moffat Limestone Co., for his invitation to inspect the
Juniper Mountain gravel pit. I found a small infestation of tamarisk and bull thistle. I recommend
chemical treatment and physical removal of these plants as necessary to stop spread to adjacent areas.
The most problematic thing I observed was a newly established stand of saltcedar in the wet areas. It
did not however seem to be growing on or be contaminating the stockpiles of sand and gravel on the
site. It is my recommendation this perennial weed be chemically treated with a selective herbicide
and a good monitoring plan be established. The saltcedar can be controlled this way and seeds will
not contaminate the rest of the site.
Of lesser importance, I observed some small infestations of biennial weeds such as bull thistle. These
appear to be new establishments which can be easily controlled with hand rogueing and spot spraying
of rosettes.
Sincerely,
AGary 7rnan, Manager
