7;el //
Technical Revision
Pikeview Quarry
M-77-211
Castle Concrete Company
January 2010
RECEIVED
JAN 14 2010
pivisiorl oo
opining and 3afetY
r
PURPOSE OF REVISION: To allow Castle Concrete to use explosive charges placed in the existing scarps located in the southwest portion
of the Pikeview Quarry to help remove unstable material located within the current permit area.
REASON FOR REVISION: In December of 2008 a landslide occurred at the Pikeview Quarry, located in northwest Colorado Springs,
Colorado. In June of 2009 the Mine Land Reclamation Board ordered Castle Concrete Company to prepare a new mining and reclamation
plan for the Pikeview Quarry, in the form of an amendment to the current mining and reclamation plan. The order called for the amendment
to be submitted to the DRMS no later than May of 2010. In cooperation with the DRMS, Castle Concrete installed a Lieca monitoring station
within the quarry to monitor the landslide and in September of 2009 a second landslide occurred.
Castle Concrete's geotechnical engineers need access to the quarry for the purpose of collecting data to assist in the preparation of the new
mining plan. Currently the data from the monitoring equipment shows there is movement in the area known as the southern scarp. There has
already been a second slide and the geotechnical personnel are unwilling, and rightfully so, to work in the area until the hanging material is
either removed or stabilized.
Without the geotechnical data the amendment cannot be prepared in time to submit to the DRMS by the May 13, 2010 deadline.
