CZOO. QF7
/qPf r« J, &16,
Kaldenbach, Tom
From: Pfannenstiel, Vernon R [VPfannenstiel@PeabodyEnergy.com]
Sent: Monday, January 11, 2010 9:22 AM
To: Kaldenbach, Tom
Subject: RE: Peabody Sage Creek Mine (C-2009-087), copy of memo regarding CDOW comments
Tom:
Thanks for sending the CDOW comments. I will respond more formally soon but a few items are needing some
clarification. The CDOW specifically mentions two sharp-tailed grouse leks and five golden eagle nests that are of
concern. Pleas have the CDOW provide these locations to us as soon as possible so that we may understand and
accurately address those concerns. We have already made major changes to the permanent seed mixes for our
upcoming submittal but we have had a long and successful history with what was referred to as Alpine fescue which is in
fact has a more common name of sheep fescue. based on its presence in reclaimed areas I would say this native has
been very successful.
I find it ironic that many of our drill hole reclamation is in CRP which is dominated by introduced species.
Please provide the requested additional information on the leks and golden eagle nests. In the mealtime we continue
on with the final preps on PSCM resubmittal.
Vern
From: Kaldenbach, Tom [mailto:Tom.Kaldenbach@state.co-us]
Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 1:35 PM
To: Pfannenstiel, Vernon R
Cc: Binns, Janet; Hernandez, Daniel
Subject: Peabody Sage Creek Mine (C-2009-087), copy of memo regarding CDOW comments
Vern,
Happy new year to you.
Attached for your file is a memo from Janet Binns to me regarding the CDOW letter of August 31, 2009.
Tom Kaldenbach
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
(303) 866-3567, ext. 8128
E-mail Disclaimer: The information contained in this e-mail, and in any accompanying documents, may
constitute confidential and/or legally privileged information.
