rr__//,\II
Kent Gorham
'jhW
,d?,aaon,
Wmg and
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Northfield Mine
Permit No. C-2006-085
Technical Revision No. 01 (TR-01)
Dear Mr. Gorham,
Northfield Partners LLC (Northfield) requests a Technical Revision to the approved
coal mine application for Northfield Mine in Fremont County, Colorado. This revision
proposes changes to the approved layout and design of the surface mine facilities
and mine access.
Subsequent to approval of the mining permit, Northfield has conducted engineering
studies of alternative configurations to access the coal seam. These studies provided
a design that is economically feasible and improves mine safety that included a main
slope that is less steep, and longer than originally proposed, and an additional
ventilation shaft.
Increasing the slope length required a minor change in the location of the portal
entrance and modification to the location of the surrounding facility area. The
proposed portal site is approximately 780 feet north of the original location. In order
to utilize the portal location, the surface facility area is shifted northward
approximately 450 feet. Two ventilation shafts are proposed that situate in the same
area as the originally proposed single shaft.
All structures and improvements are substantially the same as described in the
approved application and affect the same amount of surface, approximately 20
acres.
Please accept the following Summary of Revisions and supporting permit narrative
pages and maps as a Technical Revision to Permit No. C-2006-085.
Please call me directly at 719-275-8951 if you have any question.
Respectfully submitted,
Angel M.
