2.0 - Site Description and Map
The mine site is currently an 8.20 acre field that has for the last 50 years, produced hay and is
an agricultural property. There are no trees man made structures, utilities, irrigation ditches,
public roads, bridges, wells or pipelines, only a legal fence surrounding the borders. Within
200' of the affected area lies the Union Pacific Railroad track. This single track is about 105'
from the North property border. On the South border there is a temporary structure owned
by Elam Gravel consisting of a scale house and scale and a mobile office structure. These
manmade structures are temporary and relative only to the Bunn Pit operations.
The site is generally level and has no stream water entering it. Mining the gravel resources
will be conducted with a dragline. Any groundwater encountered will remain in the
excavated pit as not to disturb the hydrologic balance, pre or post mine. No off site transfer
of fluid will be conducted ...all stormwaters will be contained within the excavation area
Area water resources consist of a gravel pit pond to the South. This large pond is currently
under DRM & S permit "Bunn Pit" and is surrounded by levy protecting its hydrologic
aspects. The apparent water table currently stands about 12' below the existing surface
elevation or 3' above the fully excavated elevation of the pond.
The average elevation in and around the proposed area of operations is 6182 fee AMSL.
Access to the site is by the NE corner gate. The Yampa River lies to the south beyond. A
site map for this SWMP is attached to the mine permit.
