Notice of Proposed Decision
The Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety has issued a proposed
decision to Approve Bond Release
Application No. 4 (SL-4) for the
Keenesburg Strip Mine, Permit No. 0-
1981-028. The mine is operated by
Coors Energy Company under the
provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal
Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The
bond release application was submitted by
Coors Energy Company on March 16,
2009. Coors Energy Company is
requesting Phase III Bond release 165.29
acres of reclaimed area within the
Keenesburg mine permit. The requested
areas ,;onsist of parcels 1, 3, 4, 8, 11, 12,
13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, and
28. Reclamation work for these parcels
was conducted between 1985 and 1997.
The affected area is located in Weld
Counp,, approximately 7 miles North of
Keenesburg, Colorado. The Division has
proposed to release $167,911.00 (costs
associated with Phase III revegetation
tasks) of Phase III reclamation liability.
The Division has also proposed to
Approve Surety Release No.1 (SRI) in the
amount of $37,666.00.
Copies of the proposed decision are
available for review at the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room
215, Denver, Colorado 80203, and at the
office of the Weld County Clerk and
Recorder.
Any parson who has an interest which is
or may be adversely affected may request
an adjudicatory hearing regarding this
proposed decision. Requests for a
hearing must be made in writing within
thirty (30) days of the first publication of
this notice, and shall state with reasonable
specificity the reasons for the request and
objections to the proposed decision.
