Binns, Janet
From: Light, Erin
Sent: Thursday, January 07, 2010 1:23 PM
To: Binns, Janet
Subject: RE: Proposed coffer dams in Fish Creek-Routt County
Janet - We do not have any permitting requirements and so long as the flows are not diminished there should not be a
problem with downstream water users.
Erin Light
From: Binns, Janet
Sent: Thursday, January 07, 2010 10:06 AM
To: Light, Erin
Subject: Proposed coffer dams in Fish Creek-Routt County
Good Morning Erin,
The Division has received a proposed revision for the Foidel Creek Mine in Routt County that proposes to install a
waterline in T5N, R87W, S %2 Sec. 23, and SW % Sec. 24. This waterline would cross Fish Creek, which is a perennial
stream. The operator, Twentymile Coal Company, is proposing to temporarily dam Fish Creek (Paul Perri called these
Coffer dams), both upstream and downstream of the work area, and pump the flow from Fish Creek from the upstream
pool to the downstream pool. This pumping around the work area would be-very temporary just during the time it
would take the company to install the 14" HDPE waterline.
My question to you, Are there permitting actions the operator needs to conduct with your office prior to conducting this
work? If so please let me know what actions Twentymile Coal Company needs to conduct, or what information do they
need to supply to your office. They do not propose to diminish flows, however, they also have not informed us of the
size of the pumps to be used. Please let me know so I can direct the operator to provide the required information.
Thanks for your help.
JRV,et I-t. g?wws
Environmental Protection Specialist II
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
phone: (303) 866-3567 ext. 8107
fax: (303) 832-8106
