EXHIBIT I
SOILS IN FORMATION
According to Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survey of the Mesa
County Area, Colorado dated September 25, 2007 identified a single soil classification with the
site:
Northrim- Garber -Trap coMp ex , 3 to 25 percent slopes, very stony (Map Unit 61 D)
Map Unit 61 D is a well- drained soil formed in alluvium derived from sandstone and shale,
and /or colluvium derived from sandstone and shale, which is found on fan terraces. The
Northrim component makes up 40% of the soil type, with Garber at 25% and Trag at 20 %.
Northrim & Trag are considered to be "fair" sources of reclamation material, as defined by
NRCS. The land capability (i.e., suitability for field crops) for non - irrigated Map Unit 61 D is
classified as Class 6e. According to NRCS: "Class 6e soils have severe limitations that make
them generally unsuitable for cultivation and that restrict their use mainly to pasture,
rangeland, forestland, or wildlife habitat. The main hazard is risk of erosion unless close -
growing plant cover is maintained."
NRCS' full description and a map of the soil unit can be found on the following pages:
1
