The predominant drainage course found in the vicinity is West Creek, which is approximately
350 feet south of the permit boundary and flows approximately 80 feet below the site.
The site is somewhat affected by the potential of flooding from land north of the permit
boundary. Two intermittent drainage channels cross the property and flows across the site to a
series of culverts that convey water under State Highway 141 to West Creek. A map depicting
the location of the two off -site drainage basins can be found on the following page. The "SCS
Method" was utilized during the preparation of the accompanying drainage calculations.
A key element of the overall Stormwater Management Plan for the facility includes the
construction of two Water Quality Capture Ponds to control the discharge of any silt laden storm
water resulting from disturbance created by the mining operations. Each pond was sized using
criteria contained in Mesa County's Stormwater Management Manual dated: March 27, 2006.
The calculations can be found on the following pages.
The applicant currently has a NPDES permit issued by the State of Colorado's Water Quality
Control for the existing 110 Operation and is currently in the process in applying for an
amended permit for the expanded area.
Water will be used on site when necessary to control dust in the mining area, during crushing
operations, and on haul roads. Water for dust control will be obtained from existing water
rights owned by the operator. Depending on climatic conditions, it is estimated that about
2,000 gallons of water per day will be used for dust control during periods of mining activities.
