Water Re placement Plan
12/27/83
Page Four
•..
CLIMATOLOGY
The climate of Delta County ranges from almost desert to steppe to high elevation
montane. Precipitation is strongly influenced by topographic uplifting of air,
resulting in very steep gradients of both rainfall and snowfall across the
county, Winds are generally from the southwest above the friction layer, with
strong winds normally occurring only at mountaintop level for periods associated
with major storm passage. Sunshine is abundant and relative hianidities generally
are very low. Diurnal and annual temperature ranges are quite large. The
average seasonal precipitation is 14.9". For more information, see Section
2.04.8(1) Orchard Valley Mine Underground Mining and Reclamation Permit.
The local climate of the North Fork airshed is strongly influenced by micro-
climatic features--slope, aspect, elevation, soil type, soil moisture content,
and vegetation. A description of the individual factors will be addressed in the
specific watershed information. General information on the snow, rainfall, and
evapo-transpiration for the area is contained within the general hydrology moni-
toring information.
MSS/jw
I•
