Summary of Quarterly Hydrological Monitoring <br />Monitoring Activities <br />The following field monitoring and sampling activities were performed during the Third <br />Quarter 2009 (July through September 2009): <br />• August 11, 2009 — PR Spring, DP Spring and the Whirlwind Mine Decline <br />(sump) were measured for field parameters <br />• September 8, 2009 — Annual seep survey was conducted <br />• September 11, 2009 — Monitoring Well W -1 was measured for field parameters <br />and sampled <br />• September 21, 2009 — The Rajah 49 Thornton Portal was sampled as part of the <br />annual seep survey <br />Whirlwind Treatment Plant <br />Mine water from the Whirlwind Mine is pumped to the surface, stored in the untreated <br />water tank, treated and discharged to the middle tributary of Lumsden Creek. Discharge <br />of treated water from the Whirlwind Mine is allowed in accordance with Colorado <br />Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit number CO- 0047562. The mine was dewatered <br />continuously from November 28, 2007 (when treatment and discharge began) to January <br />29, 2008 (when the mine was pumped dry). Since that time, mine water has been treated <br />and discharged, as necessary, to keep the mine dewatered. Refer to Section 1 of the <br />Hydrological Report for a summary of the mine water treatment. Water is pumped from <br />the mine sump to the untreated water tank two to three times a week. Water in the <br />untreated water tank is treated and discharged in batch runs as necessary. Typically, one <br />three- to four -day batch run is required per month. Energy Fuels monitors and samples <br />the discharge water to comply with CDPS permit conditions. <br />Whirlwind Mine and Packrat Mine <br />The inflow within the Whirlwind Mine decline can not be measured directly because it <br />occurs over approximately 100 feet of the decline and within the drifts and collects in the <br />mine sump and is subsequently pumped into the untreated water tank on the surface. The <br />Whirlwind Mine inflow is estimated based on the volume of water treated and <br />estimations of the volume of water evaporated off the untreated water tank and brought <br />out of the mine in ventilated air. The field parameters from the Whirlwind Mine water <br />were measured at the mine sump. The flow rate and field parameters from the Whirlwind <br />Mine water are included in Section 2 of the Hydrological Report. Analytical data from <br />previously collected samples from the Whirlwind Mine are summarized in Table 1. <br />Characterization of mine water in the Packrat Mine could not be conducted because the <br />mine is not yet accessible. Section 3 of the Hydrological Report is reserved for field data <br />collected from the Packrat Mine at such time that is becomes accessible and is monitored. <br />DP Spring and PR Spring <br />The flows at DP Spring and PR Spring were estimated by determining the time required <br />to fill a 5- gallon bucket.
