• 2 .05.3 (3 ) (c)
Haul Road
Mining Area 3 requires one haul road to connect the
new mining area with the existing haul. The new haul road will
connect with the existing haul road between mining areas 1 and 2 .
This haul road is approximately 2500 feet long. It is designed to
be 30 feet wide. The haul road has a maximum pitch grade of 15%
which extends for approximately 250 feet. The typical grade of the
haul road is 4%.
Topsoil will be salvaged from a 50-foot wide
corridor along the alignment of the haul road prior to the start of
construction of the road. In cut and fill sections the striping
width will be increased appropriately. Borrow ditches typically
two feet deep and eight feet wide will be excavated on each side of
the road surface to provide material for the subgrade of road.
Four to six inches aggregate base course will be used to surface
the road. A Colorado State Department of Highways Specification,
Class 3 aggregate will be utilized. A section view of the road is
shown of Drawing No. 131.
Cut and fill slopes will be constructed using 2H: 1V
slopes. The haul road is constructed on grade without any
significant fills. The haul road crosses two drainages. Two
• culverts will be placed under the haul road where it crosses the
drainages at haul road stations 17+50 (CMP #14 ) and 24+75 (CMP
#13 ) . The culvert and borrow ditch sizing calculations are
presented in Exhibit 9 .
To provide erosion control, the borrow ditches and
cut and fill slopes will be seeded. The seed mix used will be that
used to stabilize the topsoil stockpiles or other appropriate seed
mix approved by the Division. Broadcast seeding will be used.
The haul road will be constructed in accordance with
the performance standards under Rule 4 . 03 . 1 (3 ) .
After the haul road is no longer needed for
operations it will closed to vehicular traffic and natural drainage
patterns will be restored. All culverts will be removed. The
roadbed will be ripped, plowed, and scarified. Fill slopes will be
rounded or reduced and shaped to conform the site to adjacent
terrain. Cut slopes will be shaped to blend with the natural
contours . The regraded areas will be covered with topsoil and
revegetated in accordance with section 2 .05 .4 .
•
2 .05-7ii July 1992
