r
01
HONEYWOOv ^c ` . .,.-r__ -_
SEDIMENT PONDS "A" AND "B" CERTIFICATION
In accordance with Rule 4. 05.6(10) , each sediment pond will be inspected
during construction under the supervision of, and certified after
construction by, a qualified registered professional engineer. This
certification is for the construction of Sediment Ponds A and B at the
Hamilton Mine both of which were constructed during April 1992.
The construction of the ponds was supervised by L. K. Jewkes, an EIT and
Colorado School of Mines graduate, who works under my supervision. Mr.
Jewkes has a wide variety of experience in the construction industry.
Pond A is located north of Mining Area No. 1. It was constructed in
accordance with the approved plan. The capacity of Pond A is slightly
larger than the design indicates because rock was not encountered in the
southern portion of the pond as anticipated. As a result, the southern
portion of Pond A is a slightly deeper than designed. The design of Pond
A is shown on drawing 117-A, revised 3-26-92. The design capacity of
Pond A is as follows:
POND A CAPACITY - ACRE FEET
Water Sediment Total
2.16 0.21 2.41
Pond B is located east of Mining Area No. 1. It was constructed in
accordance with the approved plan. The sediment capacity of Pond B is
slightly less than the design indicates because rock was encountered in
the pond bottom. The three year sediment volume is calculated to be 0.77
AF. The actual calculated sediment capacity of the as-built pond is 0.55
AF. Pond B therefore has 2.1 years of sediment capacity (3 X 0.55/0.77) .
Another way to evaluate the sediment capacity is to conclude that the
pond is 29% full of sediment [ ( 0.77-0.55) /0.77] The result of the
reduced sediment capacity will be that the pond will require more
frequent sediment removal. The design of Pond B is shown on drawing 117
B, dated 5-21-91. The Pond B as-built water capacity equals its design
water capacity of 8.07 AF. The as-built capacity of Pond B is as
follows:
POND B CAPACITY - ACRE FEET
Water Sediment Total
8.07 0.55 8.62
4p0 REGIS7*
amesStov—Ihp -`4, Date
Colorado Profe?s onal Englbgr
Registration V*;-71919230 a
CERT-ALB o eo .r
,0:3.'oaa.aaaasrfOd
oalUtYAi. c'
..dAg
