2 .05 . 3 ( 5 )
Topsoil will be removed by rubber tired scrapers with the
assistance of tracked dozers . In some instances other topsoil
salvage equipment may be utilized. Topsoil material generated
from the initial disturbance will be stockpiled in one of three
stockpiles shown on Drawing No. 117 . Topsoil stockpiles No. 1 ,
No. 2 and No. 3 have a capacities of about 25 ,000, 75 ,000 and
14 , 000 cubic yards respectively. It is estimated that 49 . 06 acre
feet, 79 , 150 cubic yards, of topsoil will be salvaged during the
initial disturbance prior to the commencement of mining in Mining
Area No. 1 . As mining progresses subsequent topsoil material
salvaged will be directly spread to the regraded portions of the
pit.
If it is decided to mine coal from Area 1 and Area 2 concur-
rently then the topsoil from the first five to seven pits in Area
2 will be stripped and placed in topsoil stockpile No. 2 . This
stockpile has enough excess capacity to contain the 30,000 cubic
yards of topsoil that would be salvaged from the first seven pits
from Area 2. If mining Area 1 and 2 are mined sequentially then
most of the topsoil material salvaged from the first five to
seven pits in Area 2 will be directly spread to the regraded
portions of mining Area 1 .
Exhibit 7 contains a topsoil inventory by mining area. This
tabulation lists the area, depth and volume of topsoil to be
salvaged, by soil map unit , from Mining Area No . 1 and No. 2 .
• Exhibit 7 also contains a tabulation of the amount of acreage and
volume of topsoil , by map unit, that will be disturbed and han-
dled during the initial disturbance and in six month increments
during the permit term.
Mining area 2 has an average of over 20" of topsoil avail-
able for salvage and replacement. Mining area 1 has just over
10" available . At the request of the Division, by borrowing
topsoil from mining area 2 , 12" of topsoil will be reapplied to
mining area 1 . As shown in exhibit 7 , this will still leave
about 20. 1" of topsoil available for mining area 2 .
• 2 .05-10 July 1991
