The following discussion forms the basis for the
following reclamation estimate:
Spoil and Topsoil
It will be assumed that an equipment spread of two
651E scrapers and one D-9 push cat will be used to haul the spoil
and topsoil. Cycle times and productions are as follows . The
CY/Hour production figure assumes two scrapers, a 50 minute work
hour, a payload of 34 .6 cubic yards of topsoil. The cost per cubic
yard is calculated using an hourly rate of $150 for the D-9 and
$175 for the 651E scrapers .

From topsoil pile 3 the production from the two
scrapers is 988 (484 X 2 scrapers ) cubic yards per hour. At a
scraper spread cost of $500 .00 per hour the unit cost to rehandle
the topsoil from pile 3 is $0.51 (500/988 ) . Using the same
calculation, the unit cost to rehandle the topsoil from pile 4 is
$0.65 .
• Spoil From Ridges
The method used to move spoil ridges into the
adjacent pits is to push it with a tractor dozer. The maximum push
distance is 450 feet, five pits . The average push distance is 225
feet. From edition 15 of the Caterpillar performance handbook, it
is estimated that a D-9 can push 450 cubic yards per hour with a
225 ' push distance. Assuming a D-9 costs $150 per hour, the cost
per cubic yard to move the spoil ridges is $0 . 33.
Reclaim Sediment Pond F
The work required to reclaim the sediment pond is to
simply push the embankment back into the pond and regrade the area
with a track type dozer. It is estimated the pond and associated
collection ditches can be reclaimed in eight hours with a track
type dozer. The cost to reclaim the pond is estimated to be 8 Hrs .
X $150 = $1200.
