This office acknowledges, that United Companies is the onsite operator of the gravel pit,
and it is appropriate that they may be included in the correction of the problems noted. DRMS appreciates the
coordination between the two companies regarding the correction of the problems, but please be reminded that Varra
Companies is still the sole permittee of the site, and as such, is the party responsible for problem correction under this
permit.
We have also received a letter from United Companies confirming their commitment to ensuring the problems at the
site are adequately and timely corrected. We will copy you on future correspondence with United Companies
concerning problem corrections and other permit compliance issues.
You also requested that we keep United Companies fully apprised concerning any adjustments to the bond amount that
may occur while Varra Companies is still the permittee (anticipating a possible transfer of the permit in the near
future). As far as Durango field office communications are concerned, we will correspond with both Varra Companies
and United Companies during this period.
Thank you for the timely response. I look forward to resolving the problems at the site. If you have any questions
about transferring the permit or other matters, I can be reached at the Division's Durango field office: 691 CR 233,
Room A -2, Durango, CO 81301; telephone 970 - 247 -5193.
Sincerely,
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Peter Kearl, United Companies, PO Box 3609, Grand Junction, CO 81502
Ec: Steve Shuey, DBMS
(c: \09 -12 docs \seahorse west pb corr to united /rco)
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction Durango Active and Inactive Mines
