Hukiil Gulch Millsite
File No. M- 2009 -076
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
Clear Creek County appreciates the opportunity to review and offer comment on this
application. We believe this is a complex application that will require your department's
technical expertise on mining and milling in order to have a thorough and complete
assessment. There are, however, some specific issues that have attracted our attention
and we request that your office look carefully at them during your review.
Mobile Mill Site Physical Space — The Mining Plan's description of the equipment and
activities that will be accommodated on the Mobile Mill Site is quite extensive. It
identifies 7 pieces of equipment on the site plan, plus 12 or more pieces of equipment
named in the "Other Equipment List" that are not shown on the site plan (Exhibit A). It
would be helpful to show this equipment on the site plan because Clear Creek County
regulations require that public roads not be used for storage or parking of equipment.
Porta Potty — Use of the Porta Potty should be discussed with Clear Creek County's
Environmental Health Department. Use of this type of sanitation facility may not be
acceptable for a full time operation.
Slurry and Process Water Pipelines - We did not see specifications for the installation
of these lines. Will they be buried? Will they be subject to freeze and thaw cycles and
possibly rupture? What environmental risks may be presented should either of the lines
rupture?
Roads — On Map E -10 County Road 281 is designated as access to the site; however the
map is not clear about the status of other roads shown on the maps. It would be helpful
for the applicant to show names and/or numbers and ownership of all roads that will be
used. In addition, the mining plan mentions some road maintenance activities.
