Sherman
Executive Director
FROM: Joe Dudash Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
RE: Bowie No.1 lie, Permit No. C-1996-083, Bowie Resources LLC Natural Resource Trustee
Technical Revision No. 65, Amend B-Seam Mine Plan and Add Geotech Hole
I am requesting your assistance in the review of Technical Revision No. 65 (TR-65), submitted by Bowie
Resources LLC (BRL) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. In TR-65, BRL is proposing to amend their B-seam
mine plan and drill one geotechnical hole.
BRL has encountered adverse mining conditions in the northern area of their permit area. Therefore, the
current mining and gob vent borehole plans to the north will be curtailed and BRL will concentrate on
mining to the west. BRL will be submitting Permit Revision No. 12 shortly, in which BRL will propose to
transfer a large portion of the Bowie No. 1 Mine permit into its own permit. BRL will then do longwall
mining in the transferred area. Because a permit revision can take several months to process and BRL is
running out of places to mine, TR-65 was submitted to keep the mining active.
In TR-65, BRL is proposing to construct mains to the west under Terror Creek and between two high
voltage transmission line towers. The mains will serve to connect the current Bowie No. 2 Mine workings
with future mining in the soon-to-be transferred Bowie No. 1 Mine permit area. So that they can keep
mining in the interim, BRL is also proposing to room and pillar mine in an area that lies to the north of
the current mains and adjacent to Terror Creek. Finally, BRL is proposing to drill a geotechnical hole in
anticipation of constructing a vent shaft on the west side of Terror Creek. I am requesting the following:
Mike Boulay -------Ground Water
Kent Gorham-------Subsidence
Jim Stark------------Reclamation Cost Estimate
Marcia Talvitie ----Geotechnical, including Subsidence (some overlap with Kent)
I will be calling TR-65 complete on Friday, December 11. Therefore, the Division's adequacy review
letter will be due on Monday, January 11, 2010. If I could get your adequacy review memo back by
Thursday, January 7, 2010, I would appreciate it. Because several people will be reviewing TR-65, copies
are limited. I am sending one copy to Marcia. A complete copy has also been scanned under TR-65. If
you need paper copies or any other information, please let me know. Thanks for your assistance.
Attachments (only for Marcia)
cc: Sandy Brown (without attachments)
.
