The purpow of this drainage study is to ensure that the concrete Pan fit the Access
of the Cherokee Clay Mine has adequate drainage capacity. As such, this drainage study
will address major sub - basins, upstream and onsite drainage oonditions, water quality
features, as well as the drainage capacity of the ooncrctc pan.
Three, major drainage sub-basiris (0, A1, and A2) have been determined for the site.
Sub-basin 0 is the offsite (upstream) drainage area for the mine access while Sub-basins
Al and A2 are the onsite drainage areas for the access. Runoff frorki Sub -basin O will he
routed to the concrete pan via, an existing roadside drainage swale, Th upstream
drainage swale must be sloped in such a manner as to ensure that the stormwater runoff
from Sub-basin 0 will flowno;rth and across the concrete pan, Runoff from Su"Osin
A2 will also be routed to the concrete pan.. Runoff from Sub-basin Al will be routed to
and detained behind an earthen bemi located just to the northeast of the mine. access.
This detained runoff wil.1 be released via a weir outlet j List downstream Of the concrete
pan. Two design points were determined for the access and are located at the concrete
pan and directl downstream of the access. 'See the enclosed map for basin and design
point locations,.
The existing surfacm of Sub 0 include both uedistuebed natural land as well as the
graveled surface of Country Road 84 (CR-84). The surfaces of Sub-basins Al and A2
i nclude natural areas, stockpiles, and graveled/unpaved areas. Natural surfaces are
comprised of scattered boulders and cobbles, range grasses, as well as trees and shrubs. A
weighted average was taken for each sub-basin in order to determine the l 0 -Year and
10O.Year Rurtoff CoefficienfLs-
Two water quality features are proposed. First, the proposed weir outlet for the earthen
berm is to be plated with available onsite rock/gravel, in order to ensure the water quality
Chwoia% Clay h1im Access Pamnil .
