M- 1977 -208
2008-2009
The purpose of this report is to comply with the Mined Land Reclamation Act of
1976, Statute 34 -32 -112 of House Bill No. 1065. This report follows the
requirements covering annual reports in the Rules and Regulations of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board, Section 2.4. The permit for the Lyons Quarry
was issued on June 4, 1978.
No active extraction mining occurs or is planned to occur on the Lyons Quarry.
Active operations ceased sometime in or around 1999. This Quarry, however,
contains the active processing of materials from the Dowe Flats Quarry at the
cement plant. In addition, purchased raw materials and fuels (primarily coal)
are stockpiled at the Lyons Quarry. Active cement kiln dust and waste
beneficiation dust disposal occurs in the "C-Pit" area of Lyons Quarry. Water
storage occurs in the "A -Pit' area of Lyons Quarry. Explosive Storage also
occurs at the Lyons Quarry.
There was no additional disturbance in 2008 or 2009. The map and report
submitted for 2006 — 2007 continues to indicate the current areas and acres of
disturbance. In 2007, previously reclaimed areas were disturbed and used as
borrow pits for raising the surface elevation in "C -Pit' to reduce ponded storm
and irrigation waters. Reclamation of some of this area occurred in 2008 -2009,
as well as reduction in the storage areas of raw materials and fuels.
Reclamation of those areas occurred in conjunction with these footprint
reductions and the slopes leading to A -Pit were reduced consistent with more
recent reclamation standards. Some areas are partially reclaimed, having been
covered in soil, but not yet seeded. All seeding has been performed with a dry
land perennial pasture mix, consistent with the original reclamation plan.
Approximately 10 to 12 acres of permanent reclamation in the areas of the
borrow material may occur in 2010, dependant on market conditions.
Plans for the reporting period from September 2009 to September 2010 include
proposed continued reclamation activities in the form of additional dry land
perennial mix, shrubs and forbs. This work will involve any continued
reductions in footprint.
United States Operations
P 0 Box 529, Lyons, CO 80540, USA, Phone (303) 823 -2100, Fax (303) 823 -2199
