(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M- 1979 -195
INSPECTION DATE: 06 NnvemhPr ')nn9 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: DB2
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection conducted on 06 November 2009 by David Bird of DRMS. The Operator had been
contacted but did not attend the inspection. The Road Runner Rest is a surface 112(c) operation that mines sand
and gravel as the primary commodity. The affected area is listed as 175 acres. Since the operator is a government
entity, no bond is held for the operation. The permitted operator is Denver Water Department, but the processing
on site is performed by Cruise & Associates, LLC. The post- mining land use will be developed water resource.
The Road Runner Rest pit has been combined with two adjacent pits - the Reclamation Pit No. 1 (M- 1977 -153)
and the portion of the Brinkman -Wood Ward Pit ( M- 1980 -221) that was south of the newly constructed 120"
Avenue. The combined pits now form one large pit that will eventually be reclaimed to form one water storage
reservoir.
There is current material processing and removal activity that appears to be consistent with that reported in the
annual reports filed by the Operator.
Only one potential problem was observed on the site that demands. immediate attention, and that pertains to weed
control. There is an abundance of idle land on the property that appears to be amenable to weed infestation. It is
not a significant problem now, but DRMS advises monitoring of the situation to prevent it from escalating. Some
of the weeds appeared to have been sprayed recently indicating that the operator may already have a weed
control program in place. If so, the program should be continued with attention to the thistle and other potentially
noxious species that might become problematic if neglected.
The only other issue worth mentioning pertains to the future shorelines of the water storage reservoir. There are
numerous locations around the pit where the slopes are steeper than 3:1. Upon mine closure and before release
is requested, the operator will need to evaluate the shorelines and modify as needed to ensure that final pit slopes
are compliant with Rule 3.1.5(7).
I & E Contact Address
NAME: John Bambei, Jr.
OPERATOR: Denver Water Department
STREET: 1600 W. 12` Avenue
CITY /STATE/ZIP: Denver.
