(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M- 1977 -39.5
INSPECTION DATE: 1 ]190/c)9
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the
inspected during the fiscal years 2009 -2010. Present
Welte of Summit Brick and Tile.
INSPECTOR ❑S INITIALS: —RK
site as part of sites to be
during the inspection was Mr. Matt
The site is a small 110 clay mine located approximately 10 miles South East of Canon
City, near the town of Rockvale.Permit acres is 9.9 with maximum affected acres not to
exceed 8.4 acres Site was not active at the time of the inspection.
At the request of the county, the operator had to move the access gate to the county road
and place gravel to limit the runoff from the site. However by requiring the operator to
move the road, the county is thus allowing drainage to be routed off site to the county
road ditch. Since the road the access road was changed DRMS request the operator to
provide a new map showing the new access road to the property, if possible with a letter
from the county which required the operator to move the aces road, so the drainage from
the road could be routed to the road ditch. Normally, the Division world like to see BMPS
in place to limit drainage from affected area leaving the site. Since this was at the
request of the county road and bridge department, as long as Summit Brick and Tile
provides the required document and maps, DRMS will not cite it as a possible problem. No
channelized flow remnants were observed from the access road to the county road, at the
time of the inspection. It appears the gravel layer is capturing most of the flow from
the access road
When the site was last inspected in 2003, no problems were noted. Appropriate berms were
constructed around the pit area, with the exception of the drainage from the access road,
all affected drainage is captured with in the pit. The current financial warranty in the
amount of $18,500.00 appears to be more than adequate to cover the current affected acres
which did not exceed 4 acres appeared to be more than adequate.
Permit sign and boundary markers were properly placed.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR.
