Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Technical Revision No. 16, (TR-16), Lorencito Mine, #C-96-084
Dear Mr. Thompson:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DRMS) has completed review of the revised
material submitted for Technical Revision No. 16 (TR-16) to eliminate hydrologic monitoring at
the Lorencito Canyon Mine. Please respond to the question below as soon as possible.
1. Please correct the permit text on page 2.05-106 under the heading "Surface Water" to
reference Table 2.05.6-16a and 2.05.6-16b, rather than 2.05-16a and 2.05-16b.
2. Please change the title of the table for LC-1 and LC-2 to "Table 2.05.6-16b" so that it is
properly referenced by the permit text page 2.05-106.
3. Please review and correct the "percent change" columns in Tables 2.05.6-16a, 2.05.6-
16(b), and 2.05.6-17a. It appears that a mathematical error may be causing this column
to reflect inaccurate values for the changes to the various constituents listed.
4. Permit text on page 2.05-106 states likewise sites LC-1 and LC-2 are located upstream
and downstream of the potential impacts from mining." According to map 2.04.7-1, LC-1
is the downstream site on Lorencito Canyon, below mining impacts. LC-2 is the
upstream site, located above mining impacts. Please review and correct the text as
necessary.
5. Please review question #4 above and ensure that mean values reported in the tables are
matched to the correct site for all data presented.
6. Please review conclusions based on the review of the data on page 2.05-108 based on
the results of #4 and #5 above.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call me.
PeGorham
Environmental Protection Specialist III
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver - Grand Junction - Durango Active and Inactive Mines
