Stop 3- Pond G and Soil Stockpiles
On the north side of CR 12E, we viewed the reclamation efforts of Pond G. The Pond was re -top soiled,
seeded, and mulched for reclamation in 2006. Although the vegetation is sparse, there was encouraging
evidence of annual species growth visible in the snow. The soil stockpile has good signs of vegetative
growth as well. The BLM requested that the road crossing to Pond G be retained as permanent.
Stop 4- Pond F
Pond F, located to the south of CR 12E, has been approved by DRMS to remain as a permanent
impoundment (Technical Revision No. 22). The pond had little moisture.
Stop 5- Facilities Area
On the drive to the support facilities, Marr Pit was observed and the reclaimed area vegetative cover
looked good. The warehouse and office at the facilities area have been approved to remain as permanent
structures. The land owner has requested that the light poles, tanks, and additional equipment remain as
well.
Stop 6- Marr Pit
We walked a portion of the pit and saw that the vegetative cover looked good. Gully repairs in the west
side of the Pond D drainage proved effective during recent precipitation events, and the pond was holding
water from these events.
Stop 7- 720 Pit
Because the road and ground conditions were getting muddy, we were unable to continue to the south end
of the permit boundary. From the ridge south of the facilities area, there was visual observation of the
vegetation, which looks excellent with robust shrub growth and ground cover.
Overview
Vegetative cover throughout the mine looks good. All ponds, drainages, and repairs to gullies are in good
condition and are functioning properly. The area of rill formation in the south west portion of Pit 1 will
need addition evaluation.
Please address any questions or concerns regarding this inspection to Elizabeth Shaeffer at
eshaeffer(iosmre.gov phone (303) 844 -1400 ext. 1552.
