<br />SAR's for well GBB3 are approximately six, while SAR values from well J1 have <br />been approximately one. <br />BACKFILL AQUIFER_ <br />Backfill well, GF5, has been monitored the last three years. The data for the <br />last two years indicates that TDS in the backfill aquifer has reached the maximum <br />(see Figure 4.8-491. The last two TDS values are greater than the RI aquifer would <br />have likely contained in this area prior to mining, as expected. The backfill <br />aquifer has also been measured at the Colt Seep, C pit, C pit minor seep and <br />Cottonwood Spring. The backfill aquifer which discharges at the Colt Seep and C pit <br />minor seep and into the C pit is stratigraphically equal to the KLM and QR aquifers. <br />The Cottonwood Springs is a discharge from the backfill aquifer developed from <br />mining to Q and R seams. Table 4.8-10a shows that the water quality from the Colt <br />Seep is approximately twice that observed in backfill well GF5.. The TDS seems to <br />have peaked at slightly over 2500 mg/I from this backfill aquifer. The water <br />quality in the C pit, which probably receives a significant amount of backfill <br />ground water, contains a TDS significantly less than the Colt Seep. This indicates <br />that some backfill water quality in this area is better than the Colt Seep <br />discharge. The C pit minor seep contains a TDS slightly greater than 300 mg/1. The <br />Cottonwood Springs contains a TDS very similar to the TDS in backfill well GF5. TDS <br />in backfill aquifers should be elevated for several years after mining until the <br />readily dissolveable constituents are removed. <br />Data from backfill well GF5 indicates that the backfill water will initially <br />be slightly alkaline with a pH of 8 while the June and September 1986 values were <br />4-233dd _
