3.3.3 East Panel Landslide Geotechnical Evaluation
An East Panel landslide occurred on October 8, 2006. A geotechnical evaluation of the
slide area was designed by Agapito Associates. This evaluation is designed to determine
the slide plane and to determine parameters for future development of G and K pits. The
evaluation also includes sites in Z dip pit. A description of the sites is shown on Tables
3.3-1 and 3.3-2 and 3.3-3.
Nine holes were cored from February - April, 2007. The remaining ten holes will be
completed during the summer 2007 project season. A total of three sites will be
completed with inclinometers, four sites with piezometers and all the sites will have
surface benchmarks. Surface benchmarks are used to monitor changes in down-dip
displacements over time. Data retrieved from inclinometers includes deflection of casing
as a function of depth below the collar. Plots are developed of deflection versus depth.
Piezometers will be used to monitor water levels. Planned instrumentation is shown in
Table 3.3-3
The monitoring frequency for 2007 will be in accordance with the recommendations of
Agapito Associates Inc. and is described as follows:
It is recommended that measurements on the benchmarks, inclinometers and piezometers
should be made on the following schedule:
• Once per month during the dry season
• Once per week during the wet spring (April-May) and fall (September-October).
• Once per day after major precipitation (rainstorm) events >0.50 inches for 3-4
days transitioning to weekly for 1-2 weeks and back to a normal schedule
thereafter.
Depending on monitoring results, Agapito Associates may recommend an increase or
decrease in monitoring frequency for certain sites.
Trapper will report monitoring results to DRMS semiannually in conjunction with the
annual report in March and again in September.
3-27a
