Spring 2009 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
•
Figure 20, Spring 2009 view of the sandstone outcrop on east side of West Flatiron
showing the same fractures and rockfall as observed in Fall 2008 (Figure 19).
• 5.5.3 Photographic Observation Point 1
This location is at a single MDW site above mined Longwall Panel 20 that is used to observe and
photograph the slabbing rockfall and landslide area at Location 4. Figure 21 shows the
rockfall /landslide area west of Location 4 as observed in May 2009. A comparison to Figure 22
(Fall 2007) shows there have been some changes along the cliff face, most notably in the
vegetation immediately above the vertical face. As noted in the discussion on Location 4,
continued headward erosion of this cliff face is actively occurring and will continue until new
equilibrium is established.
831- 032.791 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
