Spring 2009 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
• 5.1.2 Photographic Observation Point 8
This point (also A' of Traverse A -A') provides a good view of the active slabbing and
rockfall /landslide areas on the east side of Box. Canyon (west flank of West Flatiron). These
include the largest rockfall/landsiide are above Longwall Panel 21 (Location 4 of this report) and
a smaller rockfall/landslide area above entries between Longwall Panels 19 and 20 (Location 7 of
this report). Both locations we shown in Figure 7.
•
Figure 7. Spring 2009 photograph of the rockfall /landslide area at Location 7 (small slide in left
central portion of the figure at the horizon line) and Location 4 (larger slide In right central portion
of the figure at the horizon line).
A comparison of Location 4 photographs taken from Photographic Observation Point 8 (Figures
8 and 9) shows there to be relatively little observable change, except for the reduced number of
pine trees on the horizon over the exposed cliff facea demonstration that continued slabbing
and headward erosion is occurring. Further discussion about Location 4 can be found in Section
5.5.1 of this report.
is
831 - 032.791 Wright Water Engineers , Inc.
November2009
