•
III. The Proposed Action
On July 8, 2009, Twentymile Coal Company submitted Technical Revision No. 68 (TR-68)
Interim Phase III Development of Western Mining District to CO-DRMS proposing to extend
coal recovery operations into new Federal lease COC-72980 for the first time in the mine's
Western Mining District. Specifically, this mining plan action would authorize Twentymile Coal
Company to recover approximately 1.4 million tons of coal within the area covered by Colorado
State permit C-1982-056, in:
Township 5 North, Range 87 West, 6cn P.M.
Section 22; E'V2SW'/4, SE'/4;
Section 27; W'/2NE'/4, E'/2NW'/4, N'/2NE'/4SW'/4, W'/2SE'/4.
The life of the mining operations is not expected to change under Colorado Permit
C-1982-056 and this proposed mining plan modification due to future changes in
production rates and contract obligations.
The average annual production rate and the maximum production rate would not change.
• The approved State permit area would not increase from its present 191,940.0 acres and
surface disturbance within the approved State permit area would not increase from its
present 545.7 acres.
This mining plan modification will not add any more acres of Federal surface lands to the
approved permit area shown on the map included with this decision document.
This mining plan modification will authorize the recovery of approximately 1.4 million
tons of Federal coal on 500 acres of Federal coal previously included in the approved
permit area, as shown on the map included with this decision document.
The post mining land use within the permit and mining plan area would not change.
The CO-DRMS has not placed any Special Conditions on this permitting action.
Twentymile Coal Company's proposal does not require any additional special conditions
to comply with Federal laws.
•
