Re: Full Phase III (final) bond release inspection at the Arness- McGriffin and Coal Gulch
Mines near Durango, Colorado (Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Permit Application Nos. C -81 -042 and C -84 -067)
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has scheduled a bond release /termination of jurisdiction
inspection at the Arness- McGriffin and Coal Gulch Mines. The Division has prepared bond release
application packages for these revoked - permit sites and found the packages complete on November 16,
2009. The land surface of the approximate 765 acres of bond release area is privately- owned. The coal
that was mined was state - owned. The amount of land surface disturbed by both mining operations is
approximately 21.5 acres.
Time and date of the inspection: 9:00 a.m., December 9, 2009
Location of the inspection: Amess- McGriffin and Coal Gulch Mines, 4.5 highway miles west of
Durango, Colorado on north side of U. S. Highway 160, Sections 21 and 22 T35N -R10W,
LaPlata County, Colorado.
Purpose of the inspection: To verify that the revoked permit sites meet the regulatory requirements
for Phase III bond release (final bond release) and termination of regulatory jurisdiction. The
State holds no reclamation bond associated with the sites.
