Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br /> Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br /> during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br /> and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br /> This partial inspection of the King Coal land 2 Mines was conducted by DRMS staff from the Durango <br /> Office, located at 691 County Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970)247-5469. <br /> Operations were active at both sites. Three photos accompany this report. <br /> King Coal 1 Mine <br /> As shown in the photos, hydro-seed and mulch had been recently applied to the embankments and <br /> safety berms for the West and East Sediment Ponds. The embankments appeared stable and <br /> showed no evidence of slumping, settling, seeping or erosion. Primary and secondary spillways were <br /> clear and functional. Both ponds were holding water, approximately one foot deep and well below <br /> discharge elevations, no discharge noted. <br /> Hydro-seed and mulch had also been recently applied to the face of the refuse disposal pile and to <br /> safety berms and/or drainage containment berms. <br /> King Coal 2 Mine <br /> The sediment pond appeared dry. Primary and secondary spillways for the sediment pond appeared <br /> clear and functional, no discharge noted. Vegetative cover for the pond embankments was <br /> establishing. Portions of the pond embankment had been recently seeded and mulched. Pond <br /> embankments appeared stable; no evidence of slumping, settling or erosion was observed. <br />
