U13 OFFICE of ARCHAEOLOGY and HISTORIC PRESERVATION
cm
October 30, 2009
Jared L. Ebert
Environmental Protection Specialist ON 0 1
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety s
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Korinek Sand and Gravel, Inc., Korinek #1 Pit (Permit No. M-1979-131) (CHS #55880)
Dear Mr. Ebert:
Thank you for your correspondence dated October 22, 2009 (received by our office on October 23,
2009) regarding the subject project.
A search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory database indicates that several cultural resource
inventories have been conducted near the proposed project area and at least one historic property is
located within the project area. The Lake Meredith Outlet Ditch (5CW51) is officially eligible for the
National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
We recommend that the proposed mining activities avoid this site. If site avoidance is not possible, we
recommend further consultation with our office in order to identify options to avoid, minimize, or
mitigate the adverse effect to the sites.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities the requirements under State law CRS
24-80 part 13 apply and must be followed.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Shina
duVall, Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866-4674 or shina.duvallQchs.state.co.us.
Sinc y,
Edward C.
