whether they are overlapped by other plant species. All phut species `tut" in vertical projection of a
• sampling point, even those beneath other species, aze named and count towazd the percent cover
reported. When all plant spedes present aze considered, these data may add to more than 100%. With
respect to point-intercept cover sampling, "all-hit" data account for interceptions of a projected point
with ~Il species, whether or not they were the fast encountered in the vertical descent of the point.
Note that multiple hits on the same specles aze not named.
Herbaceous Species -Plant spedes in the native annual and biennial forbs, introduced annual and
biennial forbs, native annual grass, introduced annual grass, native perennial forbs, introduced
perennial forbs, native perennial cool-season grasses and grass-like, introduced perennial cool-season
grass, and ferns life forms. Subshmbs, shrubs, and trees are not included. Fungi, mosses, lichens and
algae aze also not included.
All-Hit Total Herbaceous Vegetation Cover -Summed percent covet of all herbaceous spedes
encountered based on "all-hit" data.
Cover data will include "first-hit" and "all-hit" cover by spedes (both absolute and relative values),
• total vegetation cover and cover values for litter, rock, and baze ground. If present, cover by mosses
and lichens will also be tallied.
Production: Production data will be collected as total current year's herbaceous standing crop
biomass. In sampling for bond release, harvested biomass will be separated by lifeform. Shrub or tree
production will not be sampled. Values will be expressed as gm per 0.5 sq. m. and lbs/ac.
Woody Plant Density* The density of shrubs and trees will be sampled in reclaimed areas.
Concentrated shrub and tree planting areas will be delineated and sampled separately from the general
reclamation. Values will be presented as stems per 100 sq.m. and stems per acre. No sampling of
woody plant density of reference azeas is antidpated, since the standazds ate not related to reference
area conditions.
Spedes List A Gst of all plant spedes observed during sampling will be developed. Information on
currently used sdentific names, common names, as well as sdentific synonyms, life forms, and origin
(native or introduced) will be included.
• Spedes Density: A measure of the number of spedes per 100 sq.m. determined at the cover sampling
locations will be made and referred to as "Species Density."
PR-02 30 Revised 01/06
