• addition to the mechanical or hand planting of seedlings in concentrated areas described later. The
shrub seedurg sites will receive approximately 0.5 feet of topsoil and will be deep ripped to a depth of
1.5 feet. Seed Mix No. 5 (Table 22-'1) lists the shrub species considered for seeding in these azeas. All
spedes aze native to the mine pemtit azea. The seed will be broadcast on a roughened seedbed
prepazed by disking. Disking will be conduMed to suppress volunteer species present in the replaced
topsoil If the soils aze not excessively rocky, the site may be harrowed to aid in lightly covering the
seed. If harrowing is not possible, seeding of these sites should be delayed as late in the seeding
season as practical This will allow the anticipated snow cover and freezing and thawing to aid in
covering the broadcast seed Drill seeding will be considered as an optional seeding method when
applying this mix. The shrub seeding azeas will not be seeded with the permanent mix.
The shrub seeded areas will generally be located on north aspects ox azeas which may receive run-on
moisture such as depressions or swales. The small relative size and scattering of the sites will reduce
erosion potential in these areas of Iow herbaceous cover. On a per acre basis, this method of
establishing shrubs is estimated to be as much as eight times less expensive than the planting of
seedlings; however, its effectiveness can be variable, If monitoring indicates a greater level of success
in seeded versus planted azeas, the seeding of concentrated shrub areas will become the prefeaed
• shrub establishment method on remauvng upland sites after CDMG consultation and approval.
TABLE 22-7
Seed Mix No. 5 -Concentrated Shrub Seeding Areas
Species
Seeding Rate`
P.L.S.
lbs/Acre Seeds/Ft2
Amelancluer alnifolia Saskatoon serviceberry 6.00 6.0
or
Amelanchier utahensis Utah serviceberry .6.00 6.0
eri 'dium vasevanum Mt big sagebrush 0.25 10.0
Padus ~niana melanocaroa Chokecherry 7.00 0.8
Svmnhoricargos rotundifolius Mt. snowbeay 5.00 8.5
Purshia tridentate Antelope bitterbrush 3_00 3.1
TOTAL 21.25 26.4

PR-02 17 Revised 10/05
