To finalize the plant materials lists; dominant or commonly occurring species identified in the regional
• vegetation baseline studies were evaluated fox inclusion in the seed mixes or planting lists. The list of
these species was further refined to include the more desirable (e.g., no noxious of strong increaser
species) or high utility spedes. Realistic and consistent market availability was an additional selection
aiteaon considered for all potentiai species and varieties. Included species, which were not present in
vegetation baseline studies, were added to aid in achievement of the revegetation goals specified
earlier. Finally, analysis of revegetation monitoring data collected at the nearby Seneca II Mine since
1985 and review of pertinent revegetation literature was performed. The resulting information
providedvtsights into seeded spedes performance, seeding rates, stand composition, planting rates,
antidpated survival percentages, and the degree to which natural regeneration compliments the seed
mixes. Table 22-1 lists the new taxonomic nomenclature (Weber, 1987 and Weber and Whittman,
1992) for spedes used is the miles and planting lists. The old nomenclature and common names are
included fox cross-reference.
TABLE 22-1
Revised and Old Taxonomic Nomenclature of Species
Listed in Seed Mixes and Planting Lists for the Yoast Mine
• Revised Nomenclature Old Nomenclature Common Name
E1Tus lattceolatusl o on dasystachyum Thickspike wheatgrass
E~tnus lanceolatus2 0 on n~um Streambank wheatgrass
Elvin us rixchycaulus trachycaulus o ron txachycalum Slender wheatgrass
Pascogyrum mi 1 " o on smithii Western wheatgrass
Pseudoroegnetia spicata s icata Aeroovron s icatum Bluebunch wheatgrass
Levmus ereus Fslymus cinereus Basin wildrye
Leymus triticoides Elvmus triticoides Creeping wildrye
Ceratochloa carinata Bromus mazginams Mountain biome
Festuca btach~hvlla coloradensis Festuca ovina Sheep fescue
Adenolinum Iew1S11 'num lewisii Blue flax
V' stet ascendens stet c ' ensis Padfic aster
Pa us virginiana melanocat~a Prunus v~r' gituana Chokecherry
Svmnhoricargos rotundifolius S~mphorirupos oreophilus Snowberry
Serinhidium can m emisi cana Silvet sagebrush
Sexiphidium tridentatum tridentatum emir' tridentata Big sagebrush
Seriohidium vaseyanum emir' va~ana Mountain sagebrush
Krascheninnikovia Janata Ceratoides Janata Wmterfat
N~ undo aceroides violaceus ~ ^ do Boselder
1 (dasvstaThwml included in seed mixes to ensure specification of proper variety
- 2 ri arium included in seed names to ensure specfication of proper variety
'
N07
E: The revised taxonomy follows Weber ( 198 and Weber and Wittmann (1992).
PR-02 9 Revised Ol/O6
