• The possibility of impacts To the peregrine falcon, ferruginous hawk, whooping crane, and <br />black tern ere extremely remote due to the lack of cnitical habitat on or near the <br />mihesite. However, these species should be considered in ongoing monitoring activities to <br />further verify this obs ervetion. <br />The possibility of impacts to bald ee9les is also remote due to the general lack of <br />crititaL habitat on or near the minesite. A low potential exists for winter roosting in <br />aspen groves on or near [he minesite since this species utilizes the Yampa River Palley in <br />winter. Bald eagles are known to fly up to 78 miles from roost sites to feeding areas, <br />and will search upland habitats for prey or carrion. No bald eagles were observed while <br />conducting baseline studies, but monitoring should continue during mining to determine if <br />this species is utilizing the minesite or surrounding area. <br />The northern goshawk prefers dense conifer-dominated, mountain woodlands. Such habitat <br />does not occur within or adjacent to the minesite. However, this species was observed <br />during baseline studies, indicating monitoring should continue during mining to determine <br />if impacts could occur. <br />The loggerhead shrike breeds in shrub/grasslands, including salt tolerant shrub dominated <br />habitats. The breeding and year-round range of this species is believed to encompass the <br />permit area, although it was not indicated in review of the applicable latilong studies. <br />Nor was this species observed during baseline studies. Reclamation activities which <br />include revegetation with adapted shrubs could potentially benefit the loggerhead shrike. <br />Since potentially suitable habitat exists on and near the minesite, monitoring for this species <br />should continue during mining to detect its presence end potential impacts. <br />Other Fauna. No fishes or suitable fish habitat was identified in the permit area. No <br />boreal toads (BUfo boreas brreds) or suitable habitat for this species was found during <br />baseline surveys in or adjacent to the permit area. <br />Mitioation, Protection, end Enhancement <br />The information obtained from the baseline environmental studies end evaluation of the <br />mining and reclamation plans was used to identify potential impacts to wildlife resources. <br />In turn, procedures for minimizing or preventing impacts, and measures for protecting and <br />enhancing wildlife resources and mitigating habitat alteration were developed. <br />9 Revised 06/18/95 <br />
