SOILS INFORMATION
EXHIBIT I
The La Plata County Soil Survey performed by the NRCS covers the permit area. The soils
mapping is shown on Map C-1. The soil has up to 6 inches potential for salvage.
The primary soils of the site are:
1) 27 - Falfa clay loam, 3 -8 percent slopes
2) 44 - Mikim loam, 3 - 12 percent slopes.
3) 70 - Ustic torriorthents-Ustollic Haplargids complex, 12 - 60 percent slopes
Topsoil will be used to reclaim the site after mining is completed. As the topsoil is stripped, it
will be stockpiled. As mining progresses and overburden is encountered, it will be used
immediately for reclamation. By reclaiming while mining, the overburden will only be handled
once. All topsoil piles will be seeded within a year after they are created with the same dry
rangeland mix shown in the reclamation plan. The slopes of these piles will not exceed 3H:1 V. It
is expected that 0-6 inches of strippable topsoil will be available from the disturbed areas.
Cugnini Pit, November 2009 1-1
