E:This is a Fairly Shallow Grade at the top of the South Side of the East Pit Reclamation.
The Division Believes That Its Grade Is In Error. This Grade Will Be Rechecked In November.
- As noted in last month's inspection report, Colowyo has completed approximately
55 acres of backfilling and grading in the West Pit. This area is in the lower portion of
Taylor Draw along the west side of the West Pit just above the East Taylor Pond.
During the last inspection Colowyo was just finishing the topsoil replacement in the
area. That topsoil replacement was completed and Colowyo has cut several
contour ditches into the reclamation in the West Pit. These ditches have a slight
grade to help ensure positive drainage. They flow into the lower portion of the Taylor
Tributary Ditch, which flows into the East Taylor Pond. The Division did not take any
elevation or grade measurements in the West Pit reclamation area but plans to do so
in November (or as weather permits).
Topsoil: - Colowyo (using the Bower Brothers contractors) has finished removing the
topsoil in the Taylor Draw area for the end of the A-A' underdrain for the West Taylor
Fill. This topsoil was removed by Bower Brothers and hauled onto a bench in the
South Taylor Pit area and temporarily stockpiled. The stockpile is being moved to its
permanent location just east of the final cut of the Section 16 Pit (where the majority
of the South Taylor topsoil has been placed) by Colowyo. Most of the topsoil has
been moved and Colowyo expected to finish moving the remaining topsoil before
the end of the week. They were held up by ICG, who was demobing the highwall
miner from the site. Based on the aerial pictures taken by Harry Ranney of CDRMS at
approximately 14:30 on 15 October 2009, it appears that all of this topsoil has been
removed from its temporary stockpile location.
- Colowyo has sloped and seeded the large topsoil stockpile that is just east of the
final cut of the Section 16 Pit. This is the stockpile where the majority of the South
Taylor topsoil has been placed.
