MINI ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: NA- 1289-1 ?A
INSPECTION DATE: In-19-?An9 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: HE
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Crowley County Gravel Pit #2, DRMS file no. M-1982-126,
operated by Crowley County. This site is located approximately 1/3 of a mile east and 3/4 of a mile south of
Olney Springs, Colorado in Crowley County. I, Jared Ebert of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. David Ragsdale of Crowley County accompanied me on the inspection.
The entire permit boundary area was marked with a barbed wire fence and the mining disturbance was within
these boundaries. The operator has mined the western half of the permit area starting from the southwest
corner of the site to near the northwest corner of the site and they are continuing to mine east. The working
face on the west side of the permit boundary was set at about a 2:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. The northern
working face was at approximately a 1:1 to 1.5:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. The pit excavation is very close to
the north and west boundary line at this time. The Division cautions the operator about advancing any further
west and north from the current pit excavation. There is very little space left to backfill the north and west
working face to the required 3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. The operator will not be released by the Division
unless the pit slopes are set at the required 3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio. At this time, it appears the
operator will need to bring material from the eastern side of the permit boundary to construct the required pit
slopes.
The operator has stockpiled topsoil on the pit floor and the north east corner of the pit excavation. Several
other stockpiles of mined material were in place on the pit floor near the access road. According to Mr.
Ragsdale, the operator has spread topsoil over a portion of the pit floor near the western working face.
Vegetation has begun to establish where topsoil has been spread containing some annual weeds. Once again,
the operator is cautioned not to disturb this area while constructing the final pit slopes at the western end of
the affected land.
No problems were observed during the inspection.

Figure 2.)
