Gallegos Corporation has submitted a
conversion application to increase the total acreage from a 110c with 7.56 to a 112c with 30.89 acres. A Gallegos
representative accompanied the inspector on site.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12.
The sign is located at the entrance to the site on the access gate. Permit boundaries are marked by t-posts,
fencing and a string line that are easily identifiable.
The current work area is accessed by a temporary road that cross cuts the slope back to the northeastern
edge of the current permit boundary. Some rock has been wind rowed for future picking but nothing of
significant amounts at this time. Approximately 0.25 to 0.5 acres of area is disturbed plus the access road. No
mine related debris, fuels or equipment are currently noted on site.
Reclamation has been conducted concurrently as much as possible. New slopes are 2:1. The operator has
planted numerous spruce trees that at this time appear healthy with new growth. Some native grasses have
established in the limited topsoil areas. Total disturbance is well within the 1 acre limit approved under the
current permit. No noxious weeds are noted at this time.
The required public notice per Rule 1.6.2(b) was observed on a fence post just off the main road. Another
sign was posted at the permit access road at the permit boundary. These are the only means of access to the
disturbance area.
Since the new area is similar to the exisiting disturbance area vegetation is very limited. Ponderosa and
spruce are sparsely populated on the talus slopes. Very little native grasses and shrubs are noted as well. The
operator has taken extraordinary care to prevent damage to existing trees. This practice is to be continued as
much as is practical in the new permit area. Conversion plans call for the area just north of the current
disturbance to be mined first.
No manmade structures are noted in the conversion area. A power line and structures are located on the
south side of the permit and boundaries. These are accurately depicted on the submitted maps.
No issues are noted at this time on site. The review of the conversion application is underway. Public comment
on the application will end on or near November 4, 2009. If no comments are received the application is on target
for the decision date of December 3, 2009 or sooner.
rd
