(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2009-078 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
INSPECTION DATE: 9-21-09
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety normal program
for review of new applications. The Gehrman Pit is a 112c application under review by Division of Reclamation
Mining and Safety (DRMS). Gayle Lyman, representative for Elam Construction met the inspector on site.
The required public notice per Rule 1.6.2(b) was observed at the Bunn Ranch Pit entrance which is the primary
access point for the proposed pit. A haul road will be constructed within the Bunn Ranch Pit area for moving
materials from the Gehrman to processing facilities at the Bunn. Currently the proposed permit boundaries are
delineated by fence lines that surround the area. Permanent t-posts or other means should be used to clearly
delineate the permit boundaries prior to any disturbance on site.
The site can best be described as river bottom flat lands. Elam has consulted with the Corp of Army Engineers and
two areas located in the southwest and northern edge of the proposed site are categorized as wetlands. Elam plans to
mark the areas clearly to prevent disturbance.
Vegetation consists of cottonwoods in all life stages with an understory of meadow and marsh grasses. While a
majority of trees will be removed those along the perimeter that do not present safety risk will be left. It is hoped
that water from the Yampa and a tributary will keep water levels favorable for long term survival.
No utilities were noted in the general area. The only manmade structures noted are the fences and a dike to the west
which is part of the Bunn Ranch water control system. No pre-existing trash or debris piles were observed. The
Pre-Mining Map C-1 appears to represent the current conditions.
The Public Comment Period should begin in the next ten days. Staff will begin a complete review of the permit
application as the period comes to a close.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no.
970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Gayle Lyman
OPERATOR: Elam Construction
STREET: 556 Struthers Ave.
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Grand Junction, CO, 81501
cc:
X CE: Ben Langenfeld
?
