The Soderquist
Pit is approved for 9.0 acres affected land with onsite processing to include crushing, screening and
batching of asphalt products. Affected lands will be reclaimed to support rangeland post mining land use.
Mining and reclamation activities were dormant during the inspection. Two photos accompany this
report.
The original 9.0 acre permit area includes steep-slope and drainage channel areas not easily mined or
reclaimed. Mining reserves have been consumed from the accessible areas. The Operator discussed
possible expansion to the north and indicated that the landowner is receptive to the concept of expansion
and continuation of the mining activity. Permitting options for the Operator include: (1) acreage reduction
of the existing permit by removing those areas originally permitted but never affected and amending the
permit to add an equal number of acres to the northern boundary to ensure total permit area not greater
than 9.9 acres, or (2) convert the existing 110 type permit to a 112 type permit to incorporate the
additional acreage for a total area greater than 9.9 acres. Application fee for the Amendment discussed
in option one is $827. Under option one the permit remains a 110 type permit and the annual fee would
remain at $323. There is no application fee required for the acreage reduction discussed in option one.
Application fee for the Conversion discussed in option two is $2,696. Under option two the permit is
converted to a 112 type permit, with acreage greater than 9.9 acres, and the annual fee would be
increased to $791.
The site appeared stable and well managed. No problems or possible violations were observed.
Please be aware that annual reports always require a map of current site conditions, regardless of
whether any disturbance has occurred during the report year.
Response to this inspection report should be directed to the Division's office in Durango at 691 County
Road 233, Suite A-2, Durango, CO 81301, to the attention of Wally Erickson, phone (970) 247-5469.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Brian Wilson
OPERATOR Montrose County
STREET 161 S.
